Badlands
Overworld (dry/warm)
Colorful terracotta mesas and red sand canyons. The best gold-mining biome in the Overworld, with mineshafts exposed on the surface.

Resources
- Terracotta in every color (free, unlimited building material)
- Red sand and red sandstone
- Gold ore generates much more often and higher up (extra veins between Y=32 and Y=256)
- Surface mineshafts with dark oak supports and exposed chest minecarts
Mobs
- Standard hostile mobs in caves and at night
- No unique hostile mobs; husks do not spawn here (it is not a desert)
Structures
- Exposed mineshafts
- No villages or outposts generate naturally
Why go
- Gold without the Nether: mineshaft hopping in badlands is the fastest Overworld gold
- Terracotta farming for builders - bring a shovel and a silk touch pickaxe
- Eroded badlands (the spiky variant) are one of the most scenic build locations
Tips
- Mineshaft chest minecarts here contain gold, iron, enchanted books and name tags.
- No rain and no snow - fire spread is your main hazard near the wooded variant.
