Old Growth Taiga
Overworld (forest)
A prehistoric-looking spruce forest of giant 2x2 trees, mossy boulders and podzol ground. Comes in two flavors: pine (bare trunks with leaf tips) and spruce (leaves all the way down). One of the best wood biomes in the game.

Resources
- Massive spruce wood from 2x2 mega trees
- Podzol and coarse dirt (Silk Touch for podzol)
- Mossy cobblestone from the forest-rock boulders
- Sweet berry bushes, mushrooms and ferns
- Trail ruins hide under the leaf litter in this biome
Mobs
- Chestnut wolves (tameable)
- Foxes and rabbits
- Sheep, pigs, chickens, cows
- Standard hostile mobs under the dense canopy
Structures
- Trail ruins (buried, brush the suspicious gravel)
- Abandoned camps
Why go
- Fastest wood farming in the game: mega spruces are log skyscrapers
- Podzol generates here (and in old growth pine taigas) - handy for mushroom farms
- Wolf packs for an instant tamed army
- Gorgeous, moody building terrain with natural mossy ruins
Tips
- Bring a good axe: the 2x2 trunks take a while to chop
- Sweet berries hurt and slow you - clear the bushes before sprinting through
- The pine variant has bare trunks (easier climbing/harvesting); the spruce variant has leaves to the ground
