Produces: Bamboo for fuel, sticks, scaffolding and pandas
Quick answer: Bamboo grows up to 16 blocks tall and fast. An observer at height detects the shoot reaching it and fires pistons that break the whole column above the base - fully automatic bamboo with one module per plant.
How it works
- Bamboo grows one block at random ticks, up to 12-16 blocks tall, and each plant grows independently and much faster than other crops.
- Breaking any part of the column drops everything above it - so one piston break near the base harvests the entire plant.
- An observer watching a set height fires when the bamboo reaches it; pistons or a flying machine do the rest.
- Java flying-machine harvesters clear huge fields; single-column observer modules work identically in both editions.

- Bamboo (jungle biomes, jungle temple chests, fishing in jungles, shipwreck supply chests)

- Optional (Java): slime blocks, honey blocks and observers for a flying machine
Build steps
- Plant bamboo rows on dirt, grass or sand with space above.
- Place a piston at the second block height of each plant, facing the bamboo.
- Put an observer above the piston, facing the bamboo, wired so its pulse fires the piston when the shoot grows into its face.
- Run a water stream or hopper line below to carry drops to chests.
- For big volume in Java, build a flying machine that sweeps a whole field and returns on a timer.
Rates
A single-column module gives roughly one bamboo every few minutes; a 20-plant wall produces several stacks per hour - enough to run furnaces forever.
Tips
- Bamboo smelts 0.25 items each (4 bamboo per item) - crafting it into bamboo blocks first smelts 1.5 items per block, a more efficient fuel.
- Feed pandas bamboo to breed them; hearts show when they are happy.
- Scaffolding (6 bamboo + 1 string) is the best building-access block in the game - the farm pays for itself fast.
