Carrot & Potato Farm

Beginner Java + Bedrock

Produces: Carrots and potatoes - the best villager-trade crops and a solid baked-potato food supply

Quick answer: Plant carrots or potatoes on hydrated farmland and a mature crop returns 2-5 of itself - about 5.4 with Fortune III. Give the field to a farmer villager and he harvests and replants it forever.

How it works

Materials

Build steps

  1. Raid a village's carrot and potato plots - replant what you take, it is polite and renewable.
  2. Hoe and hydrate a plot, plant the crops directly, light it to 9+.
  3. Harvest mature crops with a Fortune III tool and replant 2 per block - the surplus is yours.
  4. Automate: a farmer villager harvests and replants; see our villager farming guide.
  5. Cook potatoes into baked potatoes to eat them.
  6. Villagers need 12 carrots or potatoes to become willing to breed.

Rates

A villager-run 9x9 carrot field fills a chest with several stacks per in-game day; baked potatoes turn the potato half into one of the best foods you can mass-produce without animals.
