Cobblestone Generator
Beginner Java + Bedrock
Produces: Infinite cobblestone - or stone when the lava flows down onto the water
Quick answer: When water touches flowing lava, the lava becomes cobblestone - mine it and a new block forms instantly. One bucket of water, one bucket of lava, and you never run out of building material again.
How it works
- The recipe: water and flowing lava in contact replace the flowing lava with cobblestone. Only flowing lava works - a lava source block touching water turns into obsidian instead, which is why every generator keeps the lava one block above its source.
- Stone variant: if the lava flows downward onto the water from above, the block forms as stone instead of cobblestone - a smoother look that skips the furnace.
- Never let water reach the lava source: that turns it to obsidian and ends the generator until you bring more lava.
- The classic hazard: do not mine the block under your feet; stand to the side of the generation point.
- If water touches the lava source it turns to obsidian and the generator stops until you bring more lava.
Materials
- 1 water bucket
- 1 lava bucket
- A handful of any solid blocks for the frame
- A pickaxe (Efficiency and Haste turn this into a conveyor belt)
Build steps
- Dig the channel: a 4-long trench, one block deep, with a 2-deep hole in the middle of one side for the collection point.
- Place water at one end so it flows toward the hole, lava at the other end so it flows toward the hole from the opposite side.
- Where the flows meet, cobblestone appears - mine it and a new block forms within a tick.
- Stand safe: position yourself so the block under your feet is never the generation block.
- Mine the block and a new one forms in its place.
- Upgrade to stone: rebuild so the lava flows down onto the water from one block above for smooth stone output.
- For more output, build several generator columns.
- If the water is a source block you can pick it up with a bucket and replace it when needed.
Rates
A manual generator yields about a stack per minute with an Efficiency diamond pick, faster with Haste - truly infinite, limited only by pick durability and inventory space.
Tips
- Obsidian accidents are permanent: keep a spare lava bucket until the design is proven.
- Build next to your furnaces: cobblestone to stone to stone bricks.
- In the Nether there is no water: use a basalt generator there.
