Cocoa Bean Farm
Beginner Java + Bedrock
Produces: Cocoa beans for cookies, brown dye and the occasional suspicious stew base
Quick answer: Plant cocoa beans on the side of jungle logs - they grow through 3 stages and a mature orange pod drops 3 beans. A wall of jungle logs with a piston row harvests stacks per minute.
How it works
- Cocoa pods grow only on the sides of jungle logs and jungle wood (stripped works too) - the log does not need to be part of a tree.
- Three stages: small green, tan, then big orange - 20% growth chance per random tick, about 5 minutes 40 seconds per stage on average.
- Harvest: a fully grown pod drops 3 cocoa beans; Fortune does not increase the amount.
- Pods plant on the side of jungle logs, jungle wood and their stripped versions; the log does not need to be part of a tree.
- Pods only generate on naturally generated jungle logs in jungle and sparse jungle biomes; never on trees grown from saplings.
- In Java, beans come only from natural pods; in Bedrock they also appear in bonus chests and from fishing in jungle biomes.
Materials
- Cocoa beans from a jungle biome (check natural jungle trees)
- Jungle logs - a wall or tower of them
- A hoe or axe for fast breaking (any tool works)
- Optional: pistons, a lever and hoppers for the harvest row
- Bone meal to speed the first cycles
Build steps
- Explore a jungle and harvest natural cocoa pods for your first beans.
- Build a jungle log wall at home, one block thick, any height.
- Plant a bean on every free log face - each face is a separate pod.
- Wait for the orange stage, then break the pod with an axe (the quickest tool): 3 beans per mature pod.
- Replant on every free face and repeat: the wall multiplies itself.
Rates
A 10x10 log wall holds 100+ pods; each mature cycle triples your beans, and a piston-harvested wall yields stacks of cocoa per minute of clicking.
Tips
- Cocoa beans dye sheep wool brown.
- A jungle log pillar in your base works: the log does not need a tree.
- Average 5 min 41 s per stage, so plant every face at once.
