Moss Farm

Intermediate Java + Bedrock

Produces: Moss blocks, moss carpet, grass, azalea and flowering azalea (from bonemeal)

Quick answer: Bonemeal on a moss block converts nearby stone, deepslate, tuff and dirt variants into moss in a cornerless 7x11x7 area. Automate it with a stone generator feeding a platform, a dispenser clicking bonemeal, and water or pistons harvesting the moss - bonemeal in, azaleas and moss out.

How it works

Materials

Build steps

  1. Get one moss block from a lush cave (follow an azalea tree on the surface down to the cave below).
  2. Build a flat 7x11 platform of stone (or dirt) with air above it and a moss block in the center.
  3. Set a dispenser facing the moss block, filled with bonemeal, on an observer clock.
  4. Each click converts the platform to moss: harvest with hoes, water streams or piston pushes into hoppers.
  5. Automate restocking by feeding the platform fresh stone from a generator between clicks.
  6. Azaleas and flowering azaleas come as byproducts - pot them or compost the surplus.

Rates

Output depends on the design, the version and how much of it you build, so we do not quote an hourly figure. Build the layout below, time it for a few minutes in your own world and scale from there.
