Nether Wart Farm

Beginner Java + Bedrock

Produces: Nether wart - the base ingredient of every awkward potion, so of every useful potion in the game

Quick answer: Plant nether wart on soul sand and wait - it ignores light, water and bone meal, growing one stage about every 11 minutes on average. A mature crop drops 2-4 wart, and a Fortune III tool raises that to up to 7 per crop.

How it works

Materials

Build steps

  1. Get starter wart: search a Nether fortress around its stairwells for soul sand gardens, or loot a bastion remnant's housing courtyard.
  2. Quarry soul sand while you are in the Nether - bring at least a stack per field.
  3. Build the field anywhere safe (Overworld base works since 1.3.1): rows of soul sand, wart planted on top, walls and a roof against ghast fireballs if you build in the Nether.
  4. Scale by harvests: every mature crop replants itself 2-4 times over, so each cycle multiplies the field until you fill it.
  5. Wait out the growth - roughly half an hour for a full cycle; build the field near something else you do.
  6. Harvest only stage-4 crops (tall, dark red) with a Fortune III tool, replanting one wart per block as you go.

Rates

A mature crop averages 3 wart (2-4 flat), so a 100-block field nets about 300 wart per ~34-minute cycle; Fortune III raises the ceiling to 7 per crop.
