Turtle Farm (Scutes)

Beginner Java + Bedrock

Produces: Turtle scutes for turtle shell helmets (Water Breathing) and the Potion of the Turtle Master

Quick answer: Breed two turtles with seagrass and the pregnant one returns to its home beach to lay 1-4 eggs on sand. Eggs hatch after about 4-5 in-game days (faster at night), and each baby drops one scute when it grows up.

How it works

Materials

Build steps

  1. Find turtles on a beach and lure two into a fenced sand pen with seagrass - build the pen right where you found them so home-beach returns are short.
  2. Feed seagrass to both: hearts, and the pregnant one digs the sand and lays 1-4 eggs.
  3. Guard the clutch: light the pen and fence it - zombies pathfind to eggs to stomp them.
  4. Wait out the hatching: 3 cracks, ~4-5 days, mostly at night.
  5. Babies drop a scute each on growing up - collect, and the new adults join the breeding pool (their home beach is wherever they hatched).
  6. Scale by stacking clutches: every generation multiplies the flock, and the pen becomes self-expanding.

Rates

Each breeding round converts seagrass into 1-4 future scutes per ~5 minutes of cooldown plus a 4-5 day hatch; a 10-turtle pen yields a steady stream of shells after the first generation matures.
