Wither Rose Farm
Intermediate Java + Bedrock
Produces: Wither roses - the only mob-dropped flower, for black dye, suspicious stew and deadly kill floors
Quick answer: Any mob killed by the wither drops one wither rose where it died. Trap a wither in a bedrock-ceiling cage, pipe mobs into its blast zone, and hopper up a flower per kill.
How it works
- One mob killed by the wither = one wither rose, placed on the death block if possible, dropped as an item otherwise - even with mob_griefing off, the rose always drops.
- The rose itself is a weapon: mobs touching it take 1 damage every half-second with the Wither effect - wither skeletons, the wither and the ender dragon are immune.
- Only wither skeletons (and, on Bedrock, zombified piglins) can spawn on wither roses.
- Bees touching a wither rose get the Wither effect (except in Peaceful) even though they try to pollinate it.
- Any mob or player killed by the wither drops a wither rose; it is placed where it died if possible, otherwise dropped as an item.
- Feeding a wither rose to a brown mooshroom and milking it with a bowl gives suspicious stew with Wither for 7 seconds.
Materials
- 4 soul sand + 3 wither skeleton skulls (your wither-skeleton farm pays for this)
- A bedrock ceiling (End exit portal) or obsidian containment box
- A mob pipe: chicken farm, villager breeder or spawner output
- Hoppers and chests under the kill zone
- Blast-resistant everything - wither skulls are not gentle neighbors
Build steps
- Read the wiki's wither guide before building: a loose wither can wreck your base.
- Once the wither is under control, have it kill mobs: each death drops a rose.
- Bring mobs within its reach safely.
- Collect the roses with hoppers.
- Feed the chamber with mobs for the wither to kill.
- Use them as spawn-control flooring or for suspicious stew via a brown mooshroom.
Rates
Output depends on the design, the version and how much of it you build, so we do not quote an hourly figure. Build the layout below, time it for a few minutes in your own world and scale from there.
Tips
- A wither rose floor only lets wither skeletons spawn (and zombified piglins on Bedrock).
- Roses break instantly, and also from water, lava or pistons.
- A wither rose in a flower pot deals no damage.
