How to Dye Armor in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Leather armor, leather horse armor or wolf armor
- Dyes
- Bedrock only: a cauldron with water
Step by step
- Get leather armor, leather horse armor or wolf armor. These are the items that can be dyed this way.
- Get dyes. There are sixteen dyes.
- Java Edition: craft the item together with 1 or more dyes in a crafting grid.
- Bedrock Edition: dye the water in a cauldron with dye, then use the item on the cauldron. This uses 1 layer of water and does not change the water's color.
- To remove the dye, use the dyed leather armor on a cauldron with undyed water (Bedrock). This changes the water's color to the armor's dye color and leaves the armor with no dye.
- For reference, the default leather armor color is #A06540.
Java vs Bedrock
Java: dyeing is done by crafting the item with dye. Bedrock: dyeing uses a cauldron of dyed water, 1 layer per item. Undyeing uses a cauldron of undyed water for leather armor, leather horse armor and wolf armor.
Versions: Describes the current Java and Bedrock releases. See the edition note above for differences.
