How to Find Every Structure in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Eyes of ender for stronghold hunting
- A cartographer for explorer maps
- Boats, potions and food for long expeditions
Step by step
- Village: spawns in plains, savanna, desert, taiga, snowy and meadow biomes - explore flat land and you will trip over one.
- Stronghold: throw eyes of ender and follow; when they dive down, dig - the portal room is a few rooms from the staircase. Only 128 exist per world, ringed around spawn.
- Ocean monument: buy an ocean explorer map from a journeyman cartographer. Woodland mansion: buy a woodland explorer map from a master cartographer.
- Ancient city: dig down under tall mountain ranges (jagged, frozen, snowy peaks) into the deep dark at Y=-51 - sculk marks the spot.
- Trial chambers: underground between Y=-20 and Y=-40 in most biomes - dig around deepslate layers near caves, or buy a trial explorer map from a master cartographer.
- Nether fortress and bastion remnant: fortresses spawn in long strips - travel east-west (X axis) in the Nether; bastions avoid basalt deltas, so search every other biome.
- End city: beat the dragon, throw an end pearl into a gateway, then bridge or fly outward - cities spawn on the outer islands, ships only at some.
- Shipwreck and ocean ruins: feed a dolphin raw cod and it swims you to the nearest wreck or ruin - the fastest ocean method.
- Buried treasure: find the map in a shipwreck's map chest and dig at the red X - always under sand or gravel on a beach.
- Desert and jungle temples, swamp huts, igloos, pillager outposts: pure biome spawns - deserts, jungles, swamps, snowy plains and dark-forest-adjacent land respectively.
- Trail ruins: exposed terracotta and gravel blocks poking out of the ground in taiga, jungle, old growth and snowy biomes - dig around the gravel cap.
- Mineshaft: listen for cave spider sounds, or check badlands where mineshafts break the surface. Monster rooms and amethyst geodes: caving luck - geodes show smooth basalt, monster rooms show mossy cobblestone.
Java vs Bedrock
Cartographer maps cover mansion, monument and trial chambers on both editions - three of the six rarest structures solved with emeralds.
Versions: Structure sets are nearly identical on Java and Bedrock; Bedrock adds a few generation quirks like more frequent villages. The /locate structure command works on both.
Frequently asked questions
What is the easiest way to find structures?
The /locate structure command in a cheats world, or a seed-map website for your seed. In legit survival: eyes for strongholds, cartographer maps for mansions, monuments and trial chambers, and dolphins for ocean loot.
Why can't I find a nether fortress?
Fortresses generate in north-south strips, so travel east or west - moving north-south can keep you between strips forever. Dig at lava-sea level around Y=60-70 for the clearest sightlines.
How far out are End cities?
They start on the outer End islands, hundreds of blocks past the gateways - bring an elytra with rockets or a lot of blocks, and always a pumpkin or carved helmet habit for endermen.
