How to Find the Ice Spikes Biome in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Warm gear and food - it is a long, cold walk
- An axe (Silk Touch optional) for packed ice
- An elytra or boat for scouting frozen coastlines
Step by step
- Search in cold, dry regions: ice spikes generate at high weirdness with low humidity, and never border forested biomes - check beyond snowy plains and windswept gravelly hills.
- Frozen rivers are the tell: ice spikes are most commonly separated from snowy plains by a frozen river - follow one and watch the banks.
- Near warmer edges, ice spikes can border dappled forests and rarely cherry groves - an autumn forest next to snow is a promising sign.
- On coasts, look between snowy beaches, stony shores and frozen oceans.
- Spot the biome: a snow-block plain dotted with huge packed-ice spikes and ice patches. The tall spires are visible from far away.
- Vegetation is almost nonexistent - plants only appear where dirt was exposed during generation - so the empty white ground is part of the signature.
- Mobs: rabbits and polar bears by day; strays, common hostile mobs and even zombie horsemen at night (the latter only on player-placed grass). Unlike snowy plains, regular skeletons do not dominate here.
- Harvest packed ice: the spikes are solid packed ice - a few stacks per spike, and it never melts. The fastest packed ice source for ice roads.
- It snows constantly here, so lightning almost never strikes - a safe biome during storms.
- Still stuck? Use /locate biome minecraft:ice_spikes with cheats enabled for exact coordinates.
Java vs Bedrock
Cold, dry, past the frozen river: the spikes themselves are the reward - enough packed ice for a nether highway in one visit.
Versions: Ice spikes generation is the same on Java and Bedrock. Current as of 26.x.
