How to Get a Big Dripleaf in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Big dripleaves generate in lush caves and can be broken with any tool, an axe being fastest. For a renewable supply, buy small dripleaves from a wandering trader for an emerald each and use bone meal to turn them into big dripleaves up to 5 blocks tall. Big dripleaves do not grow by themselves.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Go to a lush cave, where big dripleaves generate. Break one with any tool; an axe is fastest. Breaking any part collapses the whole plant and drops one big dripleaf for each stem block and the leaf.
  2. Or trade an emerald for a small dripleaf with a wandering trader.
  3. Plant it on clay, coarse dirt, dirt, farmland, grass blocks, moss blocks, mud, muddy mangrove roots, mycelium, podzol or rooted dirt. It can also go underwater.
  4. Use bone meal on a small dripleaf to make a big dripleaf up to 5 blocks tall, with enough open space above.
  5. Use more bone meal to make a big dripleaf one block taller. It does not grow without it.
  6. Stand on the leaf: after 10 game ticks (0.5 seconds) it tilts, and 10 ticks later it drops you. Power it with redstone to stop it tilting.

Java vs Bedrock

In Bedrock Edition, big dripleaves and their stems are conductive blocks.

Versions: A placed big dripleaf is always one block tall.
