How to Get Infinity in Minecraft (Infinite Arrows)

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Infinity goes on bows: enchanting tables, librarian trades, fishing, monster rooms and structure loot all give it. One arrow in your inventory means unlimited shots - but it can't be combined with Mending, and tipped or spectral arrows are still consumed.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Enchant a bow: Infinity is a level-I-only enchantment, so even modest enchanting table rolls can land it - no level-30 setup required.
  2. Trade with librarians: reroll lecterns until an Infinity book appears and lock it. (If you play with the Villager Trade Rebalance experiment on, only DESERT librarians sell it.)
  3. Fish and loot: fishing, monster room chests and non-village structure loot carry Infinity books; Bedrock raid mobs drop enchanted books too.
  4. Apply on an anvil: book + bow, cheap since it's only level I. Done - infinite arrows.
  5. Keep one arrow: Infinity needs at least one arrow anywhere in your inventory to work. Fired infinity arrows can't be picked back up.
  6. Know the exceptions: tipped arrows and spectral arrows are always consumed, Infinity or not - carry normal arrows for everyday shooting.
  7. Choose your side: Infinity and Mending are mutually exclusive since 1.11.1. Infinity = never craft arrows again; Mending = a bow that never breaks. Most players pick Mending once they have a skeleton farm or fletcher trades, and Infinity before that.
  8. Crossbow note: Infinity is bow-only in Survival. Commands can force it onto a crossbow (works for arrows, not firework rockets) - it does nothing on a trident.

Java vs Bedrock

Same behavior in Java and Bedrock: one inventory arrow enables unlimited normal shots; tipped and spectral arrows always get consumed. The trade-rebalance note (desert librarians only) applies to both editions. Bedrock's extra source is raid-dropped books.

Versions: Added in Java 1.1. Infinity and Mending became mutually exclusive in 1.11.1 (16w50a). Since 1.20.5, tag manipulation can make it function on crossbows - still not Survival-legit.

Frequently asked questions

Does Infinity need an arrow in the inventory?

Yes - you must carry at least one normal arrow for Infinity to fire. It never gets consumed, but it has to be there. Tipped and spectral arrows are always consumed regardless.

Can you have Infinity and Mending on the same bow?

Not in Survival - they've been mutually exclusive since 1.11.1. Commands can force both, and then they work together, but legit play forces the choice: infinite ammo or infinite durability.

Is Infinity better than Mending on a bow?

Early game, Infinity wins - arrows are annoying to farm. Once you have a skeleton farm, a fletcher, or a gravel-to-flint routine, Mending usually wins because a stack of arrows plus self-repair beats re-crafting bows.
