How to Make a Raid Farm in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- 1 villager + bed + job site block
- Ominous bottles from raid captains (1.21+)
- Building blocks, water buckets, signs or trapdoors for the funnel
- Lava or magma blocks for ravagers
- Hoppers and chests; allays for totem sorting (optional)
Step by step
- Get the omen. Since 1.21, kill a raid captain (pillager outposts spawn them) to get an ominous bottle, drink it for raid omen, and walk into your farm village - the raid starts. Before 1.21 the captain gave Bad Omen directly, which is why old guides look different.
- Build the fake village. One villager linked to a bed (plus a job block for safety) defines the raid center. Keep it small and far from real villages - anything else with beds or villagers can hijack the raid center.
- Choose the spawn trap. Raiders spawn near the raid center. Wall off the area so the only valid spawn is a water funnel platform above your killing chamber; on Bedrock build the platform over an ocean because raiders will not pathfind toward the villager.
- Set up the kill zone. Drop raiders far enough to leave them at one hit, then finish them by hand for the loot and XP. A lava blade or magma layer handles ravagers, which are too big for standard drops.
- Survive the waves. A raid comes in waves (3 on easy, 5 on normal, 7 on hard). Evokers summon vexes that fly through walls - kill evokers first and keep your totem in the off-hand.
- Collect the loot. Emeralds, totems of undying, saddles and enchanted gear flow into hoppers. Totems do not stack, so late-game designs use allays to sort them into bulk storage.
- Chain the next raid. When the raid ends you get Hero of the Village (cheaper trades - nice bonus). Drink another ominous bottle and go again; expect a roughly 30-second reset between raids on current versions.
Java vs Bedrock
Java and Bedrock raid farms are completely different builds. Java raiders sprint toward the village center, so bed-bait funnels work; Bedrock raiders do not, so spawns must be forced onto an ocean platform - but Bedrock raids also drop emeralds, enchanted books and iron gear, making those farms especially rich.
Versions: Raid farms date to the 1.14 Village & Pillage update that introduced raids. The 1.21 ominous bottle change (raid omen instead of instant Bad Omen) slowed the top farms but they remain the best totem and emerald source in the game.
Frequently asked questions
Is a raid farm worth it?
Yes - it is the only renewable totem of undying source, and the emeralds make villager prices irrelevant. Even the basic one-afternoon design produces enough totems for the rest of a playthrough.
Why did my raid spawn outside the trap?
The raid center moved or there are valid spawn spaces you missed. Confirm your villager is still linked to the bed inside the farm, remove stray beds and villagers within about 96 blocks, and spawn-proof every surface near the platform.
Raid farm or villager trading for emeralds?
Trading is steady and safe from day one; a raid farm is bursty and far richer once built, and it is the only source that also gives totems. Most players trade early, then build the farm and never worry about emeralds again.
