How to Make a Soul Lantern in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

What you need

• 1 soul torch (1 stick + 1 coal/charcoal + 1 soul sand or soul soil)
• 8 iron nuggets (from 1 iron ingot)
• Crafting table

Step by step

1. Get soul sand or soul soil in the Nether: soul sand valleys are full of both.
2. Craft soul torches: 1 stick on the bottom, 1 coal or charcoal in the middle, and 1 soul sand or soul soil on top. Each batch makes 4 soul torches.
3. Craft iron nuggets: 1 iron ingot gives 9 nuggets, or smelt iron tools and armor.
4. Open the crafting table and surround 1 soul torch with 8 iron nuggets, filling every other slot.
5. Take the soul lantern. Hang it from ceilings or set it on floors; it works underwater too.
6. Use it where it shines: soul lanterns emit light level 10 with a blue flame, piglins avoid them, and unlike regular lanterns and torches they never melt nearby snow or ice.

Java vs Bedrock

The recipe is identical in Java and Bedrock (8 nuggets around a soul torch), and in both editions soul lanterns give light level 10, repel piglins, and do not melt snow or ice.

Versions: 1.16 (Nether Update)
