How to Make an End Crystal in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- 7 glass
- 1 eye of ender (blaze powder + ender pearl)
- 1 ghast tear
Step by step
- Smelt sand into 7 glass.
- Craft an eye of ender from blaze powder + an ender pearl.
- Kill a ghast in the Nether for a ghast tear.
- Open a crafting table.
- Fill every slot with glass except the center (eye of ender) and bottom-middle (ghast tear).
- Take the end crystal. Place it on bedrock or obsidian; it explodes if damaged, so handle with care.
Java vs Bedrock
The end crystal recipe is the same in Java and Bedrock. Four crystals placed on the edges of the exit portal respawn the ender dragon and rebuild the obsidian towers, and crystals are also the strongest explosive weapon in the game for PvP and speedkilling the dragon itself. A crystal can only be placed on bedrock or obsidian, heals the dragon when lit, and detonates with more power than TNT when hit. Ghast tears are the bottleneck: farm ghasts in soul sand valleys or basalt deltas with a Looting III sword.

Frequently asked questions
How many end crystals do you need to respawn the dragon?
Four. Place one on the middle of each edge of the bedrock exit portal. The towers regenerate with fresh crystals and the dragon returns; each later kill gives experience and opens a new End gateway, up to 20.
Can you use end crystals as a weapon?
Yes. Crystals explode when damaged after placement, dealing more damage than TNT, and players chain-place them on obsidian in PvP ('crystal PvP') or to burst the dragon. They hurt the placer too, so blast protection helps.
Why can I not place my end crystal?
Crystals only sit on bedrock or obsidian blocks. Any other surface rejects the placement, which also means they cannot be moved with pistons.
