How to Make Concrete Stairs in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Concrete x6 (matching color, makes 4 stairs) or x1 per stair via stonecutter
- Any pickaxe
- Crafting table or stonecutter
Step by step
- Make concrete first: craft concrete powder from sand, gravel and dye, then touch it to water to solidify it.
- Craft the stairs: 6 matching concrete blocks in the stair pattern (1 top-left, 2 middle, 3 along the bottom) give 4 concrete stairs.
- Or stonecut them: feed concrete blocks into a stonecutter for 1 stair per block - clean, instant, and no crafting grid needed.
- Mine with any pickaxe: even wooden works, but without a pickaxe the stair drops nothing.
- Build fireproof color: unlike wool stairs, concrete stairs don't burn and resist ghast fireballs like any stone-type block - the right choice for Nether builds and fireplace roofs.
- Match the palette: all 16 concrete colors exist, so modern roofs, amphitheaters and pixel-art curves finally have flat, textureless color options.
- Pair with concrete slabs for smooth gradients and with the classic concrete block for walls - a complete flat-color family.
Java vs Bedrock
Identical in Java and Bedrock, including the 1:1 stonecutter conversion. Bedrock added them in Preview 26.50.24 and stonecutting in Preview 26.50.25.
Versions: Mentioned as a logical missing block by kingbdogz back in May 2021, announced at Minecraft Live May 2026 and added in Java 26.3 (snapshot 7); stonecutter support came in snapshot 8. Bedrock added them in Preview 26.50.24.
Frequently asked questions
Are there concrete stairs in Minecraft?
Yes, since 26.3: craft 4 stairs from 6 matching concrete blocks in the stair shape, or cut 1 concrete block into 1 stair with a stonecutter. All 16 colors are available.
Do concrete stairs burn?
No - unlike the wool stairs added in the same drop, concrete stairs are completely fireproof and lava-safe, with the same blast resistance as concrete.
Can you stonecut concrete stairs?
Yes: one concrete block in a stonecutter produces one concrete stair. The recipe arrived one snapshot after the stairs themselves (Java 26.3 snapshot 8).
