How to Make a Honeycomb Block in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Place four honeycombs in a 2×2 square to make one honeycomb block. Your inventory crafting grid is enough. This is a decorative block, not a sticky honey block, and you cannot craft it back into honeycombs.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Collect honeycomb by using shears on a full bee nest or beehive at honey level 5. Each harvest gives three honeycombs.
  2. Use smoke from a campfire beneath the nest or hive to keep the bees calm while harvesting.
  3. Gather four honeycombs. Honey bottles are a different ingredient and do not work in this recipe.
  4. Put one honeycomb in each of the four slots of your inventory crafting grid, or use a 2×2 square on a crafting table. Take one honeycomb block.
  5. Use the block for orange decorative walls, floors or accents. It does not act like a sticky honey block.
  6. Break placed honeycomb blocks with any tool or by hand. No Silk Touch is needed; the block drops itself, not four honeycombs.

Java vs Bedrock

The four-honeycomb recipe works in Java and Bedrock. Honeycomb blocks cannot be unpacked into honeycombs, so keep loose honeycomb for beehives, candles or waxing copper.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a crafting table?

No. The 2×2 inventory crafting grid is enough for four honeycombs.

Can I recover honeycomb from the block?

No. There is no reverse crafting recipe. Breaking it gives the honeycomb block itself.

Is this the same as a honey block?

No. Honeycomb blocks are decorative and use honeycombs. Honey blocks use honey bottles and have sticky properties.
