How to Make a Potion of Harming in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

What you need

• Brewing stand + blaze powder fuel
• Potion of Healing or Poison as the base
• 1 fermented spider eye (spider eye + brown mushroom + sugar)
• Glowstone dust (optional, Harming II)
• Gunpowder (for the splash version, its main use)

Step by step

1. Set up a brewing stand and fuel it with blaze powder.
2. Brew a base potion first: a potion of Healing (awkward potion + glistering melon slice) or a potion of Poison (awkward potion + spider eye).
3. Craft a fermented spider eye from 1 spider eye, 1 brown mushroom and 1 sugar.
4. Place up to 3 potions of Healing or Poison in the bottom slots of the brewing stand.
5. Put the fermented spider eye in the ingredient slot on top. It corrupts the positive effect into instant damage.
6. Wait 20 seconds. You now have potions of Harming that deal 6 damage instantly.
7. Optional: add glowstone dust for Harming II (12 instant damage), then gunpowder for splash potions to throw at enemies.

Java vs Bedrock

Harming is an instant potion with no duration, so redstone never extends it in either edition. Splash Harming is a classic PvP and mob-clearing weapon, but remember the twist: undead mobs (zombies, skeletons, the wither) are healed by Harming instead of hurt, so never throw it at them. Instant Damage deals 6 HP at level I and 12 HP at level II.
