How to Get a Potion of Luck in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: The potion of Luck exists only in Java Edition and has no brewing recipe: you can only get it from the Creative inventory or with commands. It boosts your fishing luck for 5 minutes.

What you need

Java Edition (the potion does not exist in Bedrock)
Cheats enabled or Creative mode
A fishing rod to make use of the effect

Step by step

Open a Java Edition world with cheats enabled, or switch to Creative mode.
In Creative, search 'luck' in the inventory and take the potion of Luck (splash and lingering versions are there too).
With commands, use /give @s minecraft:potion[minecraft:potion_contents={potion:"minecraft:luck"}] for the drinkable version.
Drink it to get the Luck effect for 5 minutes.
Go fishing while the effect is active: Luck increases the weight of treasure loot and reduces junk, so you catch more name tags, enchanted books and saddles.
For a survival-legal taste of Luck, get the Hero of the Village effect and stand near a fletcher: it can gift you arrows of Luck.

Java vs Bedrock

The potion of Luck is exclusive to Java Edition and cannot be brewed or obtained in Survival: it was kept in the game for mapmakers after Mojang considered removing it in 1.9. Bedrock Edition has no Luck potion at all. The only survival way to touch the effect is the arrow of Luck that fletcher villagers gift you while you have Hero of the Village (also Java only).
