How to Make a Potion of Night Vision in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Brewing stand + blaze powder fuel
- Nether wart + water bottles (for awkward potions)
- 1 golden carrot (carrot + 8 gold nuggets)
- Redstone dust (optional, longer duration)
Step by step
- Set up a brewing stand and fuel it with blaze powder.
- Brew water bottles with nether wart to make awkward potions, the base for almost every potion.
- Craft a golden carrot: 1 carrot surrounded by 8 gold nuggets in a crafting table.
- Place up to 3 awkward potions in the bottom slots of the brewing stand.
- Put the golden carrot in the ingredient slot on top.
- Wait 20 seconds. You now have potions of Night Vision that last 3 minutes.
- Optional: add redstone dust to extend the duration to 8 minutes, or gunpowder for splash potions.
Java vs Bedrock
Night Vision works the same in Java and Bedrock: everything appears at full brightness, which is perfect for caving, underwater exploring and the deep dark. There is no level II version. It is also the base potion for brewing Invisibility with a fermented spider eye. It only changes brightness: it does not stop mobs from spawning, so bring real torches anyway.
Versions: javabedrock
Frequently asked questions
How long does Night Vision last?
The base potion lasts 3 minutes. Adding redstone dust extends it to 8 minutes. There is no Night Vision II.
What do you need for a Night Vision potion?
An awkward potion plus a golden carrot. Craft the golden carrot with 1 carrot and 8 gold nuggets, then brew it into the awkward potion.
Does Night Vision work in the deep dark?
Yes. Night Vision brightens everything, including the deep dark and underwater areas, making ancient city runs much safer. The warden is still blind anyway, but you will spot sculk sensors and chests easily.
