Smithing Template
Material Stack: 64 Since 1.20 (Trails & Tales)
Quick answer: Netherite Upgrade: ONLY in bastion remnant chests (guaranteed in treasure-room bastions) - the gatekeeper of netherite gear.
How to get it
- Netherite Upgrade: ONLY in bastion remnant chests (guaranteed in treasure-room bastions) - the gatekeeper of netherite gear
- Armor trims (18 designs): scattered across structures - sentry in pillager outposts, dune in desert temples, ward in ancient cities, tide from elder guardians (20% drop), flow and bolt in trial chambers vaults, and more
- Duplicate any template you find: 7 diamonds + the template + its matching block (netherrack for netherite upgrade) makes 2 - never use your last one raw
Uses
- Netherite Upgrade at the smithing table: diamond gear + template + netherite ingot = netherite gear, keeping enchantments and prior-work penalty
- Armor trims at the smithing table: template + armor piece + a trim material (amethyst, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, quartz, netherite, redstone, resin brick) applies a cosmetic pattern
- Trims are purely cosmetic - they change looks, not stats - but silence trim on full netherite is the server's loudest flex
- Templates are consumed on use, which is why diamond duplication is the real meta
Renewability
Mixed: most templates are effectively non-renewable per structure; elder guardians make tide farmable, and vault loot renews per player. Duplication with diamonds is the practical answer.
Java vs Bedrock
Identical in Java and Bedrock: same structures, same duplication recipe, same smithing behavior. In Java, ward, silence, rib and the netherite upgrade are strictly non-renewable without duplication.
