Uses
- Jab attack (left-click): 4.5 block reach, the longest of any weapon, but it cannot hit targets closer than 2 blocks and cannot crit or sprint-knockback
- Charge attack (hold right-click): damage scales with closing speed (4.6 blocks per second minimum), adds knockback at 5.1, knocks riders off their mounts and can hit several entities in one pass
- Hits through non-solid blocks like cobwebs and tall grass; in Java it can even knock primed TNT horizontally
Renewability
Yes for wood, gold, stone, copper and iron tiers. Diamond and netherite spears are not renewable (diamonds only via vaults).
Java vs Bedrock
Jab damage is one heart higher per tier in Bedrock. Java gates jabs behind a 100% attack cooldown, while Bedrock uses an ender-pearl-style use cooldown shared across all spears in your inventory. In Java a spear can charge from the offhand; in Bedrock spears cannot be held in the offhand at all.
