Torchflower Seeds
Material Stack: 64 Since 1.20 (Trails & Tales)
Quick answer: Sniffers dig them up: when a sniffer finishes digging, there is a 50% chance the drop is torchflower seeds (otherwise a pitcher pod).
How to get it
- Sniffers dig them up: when a sniffer finishes digging, there is a 50% chance the drop is torchflower seeds (otherwise a pitcher pod)
- Digging only works on dirt, grass blocks, podzol, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, moss, pale moss, mud and muddy mangrove roots - NOT mycelium
- Sniffers hatch from sniffer eggs, found by brushing suspicious sand in warm ocean ruins
Uses
- Plant on farmland: grows through 3 stages into a torchflower - mature crops drop 1 torchflower but NO seed back, so keep sniffers digging to stay stocked
- Torchflowers craft into orange dye and work as decoration
- Breed sniffers and chickens with the seeds, and speed up snifflet and chick growth by 10% per feed
- Farmer villagers can plant torchflower seeds but cannot harvest the mature crop (works as intended) - no fully automatic villager farm
Renewability
Renewable: sniffers dig indefinitely on valid blocks.
Java vs Bedrock
Identical digging, farming and breeding in Java and Bedrock, including the no-seed-back mature drop and the villager harvest limitation.
