Drops

ItemAmountNotes
Seagrass0-2More with Looting; not when killed by lightning in Bedrock
Bowl1Bedrock only, when killed by lightning
Turtle Scute1Not a death drop: a baby turtle drops one when it grows into an adult
Experience1-3Only when killed by a player or tamed wolf

How to kill Turtle

Drops 0-2 seagrass - nearly nothing. In Bedrock a turtle struck by lightning drops a bowl. Keep them alive instead: baby turtles drop a turtle scute when they grow up, the only source of the turtle shell helmet.

Behavior

Slow on land, fast in water, cannot drown and cannot be leashed (but follows seagrass within 10 blocks). After breeding, the pregnant turtle travels all the way back to its home beach, digs the sand and lays 1-4 eggs that hatch at night over 4-5 days - eggs moved with Silk Touch make the babies adopt the new beach. Zombies, husks, drowned, zombie villagers, skeletons, strays and many animals trample or attack eggs and babies, so protect the nest.

Taming and breeding

Cannot be tamed. Breed two turtles with seagrass; the baby takes one Minecraft day (20 minutes) to grow, sped up 10% per seagrass, and drops a turtle scute on adulthood.
