The story
The world behind the most famous Minecraft creepypasta. The original 2010 Herobrine screenshot (the white-eyed 'Steve' in the fog) was a hoax, but the world was real. Minecraft@Home rebuilt the visible terrain block by block - using leaf-decay glitches, chunk borders and block texture rotations as clues - and recovered the seed in January 2021. The Minecraft Launcher later joked in its changelog: 'removed Herobrine from Java Alpha 1.0.16_02'.
Notes
- Only generates correctly in Alpha v1.0.16_02 (enable historical versions in the launcher)
- Stand at X=5.06, Y=71, Z=-298.54 to recreate the exact screenshot view
- Herobrine was never in the game: you will find the hill, the trees and the fog, nothing more
- Mojang references the seed in the 15 Year Journey map's Alpha minigame
