The story
The world of Minecraft's official demo mode - the free trial that millions of players tried before buying - is generated from the seed "North Carolina". Type exactly that (with the space and capitals) into the seed box of any full Java version and the demo world appears: the same hills, the same river, the same starter chest. It is probably the most-played seed in history, and it was hiding in plain sight.
Notes
- The demo spawns you with a small bonus chest containing starter tools and torches
- Works in modern Java - the demo world generates the same way it does in demo mode
- Capitalization matters: type North Carolina exactly, with the space
- The wiki's Demo Mode page gives the demo seed as -343522682, which is the text 'North Carolina'
