How to find it
- Generates underground anywhere in the Overworld, often intersecting caves - explore cave systems and listen for cave spiders
- Exposed sections appear in badlands (as dark oak, near the surface) and ocean floors
- /locate structure minecraft:mineshaft
Loot
- Chest minecarts: rails, enchanted books, name tags, melon and beetroot seeds, glow berries (in lush caves), diamonds rarely
- Cobwebs galore - shear them for string
- Rails: strip the whole structure for hundreds of free rails
- Cave spider spawners: convert into XP/string farms
Dangers
- Cave spider spawners: poison bites drain you to half a heart
- Open drops and unsupported gravel ceilings
- Getting lost - mineshaft corridors all look alike
Tips
- Milk or honey bottles cure cave spider poison; a shield blocks the bite.
- Torch one direction only (e.g. always place on the right wall) so you can navigate back.
- Badlands mineshafts are mostly open-air: free loot with daylight safety.
- In Java, mineshafts float unsupported; in Bedrock they generate with support pillars - same loot.
