How to find it
- Generates in strips running north-south: travel east or west (X axis) and you will cross one eventually
- Look for the dark nether brick bridges over lava seas - render distance high helps
- /locate structure minecraft:fortress
Loot
- Nether wart growing beside stairwells - the start of all brewing
- Blaze spawners: blaze rods for brewing stands and eyes of ender
- Fortress chests: diamonds, saddles, gold and iron horse armor, golden swords
- Wither skeleton skulls: 2.5% base drop (Java +1% per Looting level, Bedrock +2%)
Dangers
- Wither skeletons inflict Wither: your hearts turn black and drain. Milk cures it
- Blazes set you on fire from range - fire resistance potions turn the fight trivial
- One wrong step off a bridge into lava is the classic hardcore run ender
Tips
- Wither skeletons only spawn inside the fortress bounding box - mark it before building a skull farm.
- A Looting III sword nearly doubles skull rates; bring one before committing to Wither farming.
- Blaze spawners: cage the spawner with torches on all faces to pause it while you build the farm.
