Overworld
How to find it
- Throw eyes of ender: they fly toward the nearest stronghold. Follow them until they start diving into the ground, then dig down
- Triangulate: throw from two spots a few hundred blocks apart and walk to where the flight lines cross - saves eyes
- Java: 128 strongholds generate in eight rings around the world origin (the first ring has 3, 1,280-2,816 blocks out). Bedrock: no limit, at least 160 blocks from the origin
Loot
- Chests in corridors and libraries: ender pearls (about 23% per chest), iron chestplates, rarely an enchanted book
- The End portal room, the only room guaranteed in every stronghold
Dangers
- Silverfish spawner in the portal room - break it or light it before activating the portal
- Silverfish hide in infested stone bricks throughout the structure
- Easy to get lost: place torches on one side to mark the way back
Tips
- Bring enough eyes of ender for the frames and the trip.
- Rarely the portal room is overwritten by a cave, monument or another structure: then find another stronghold.
- Mine straight down only after digging a staircase - strongholds love to open into caves and ravines. Source: minecraft.wiki Stronghold.
