Quick answer: A crossbow shoots two extra arrows on each shot, 10 degrees apart, but uses only one arrow. Only the central arrow can be picked up. In Java only one arrow from the same shot can damage the same mob. Tipped arrows and firework rockets are duplicated too. Each projectile costs one durability point.

- Enchanting table
- Enchanted books from fishing, librarian villagers, monster rooms and structure loot
- Combine in an anvil
Best uses
Good for groups of mobs and pairs well with Quick Charge. It cannot share a crossbow with Piercing.
Incompatible with
Piercing - an item can only hold one of these.
