Slime Farm

Intermediate Java + Bedrock

Produces: Slimeballs (0-2 per small slime, +1 with Looting) - a large slime yields around 9 slimeballs on average

Quick answer: Slimes spawn below Y=40 in special slime chunks (about 1 in 10 chunks, any light level) or on swamp surfaces between Y=51-69, most on full moons. Dig out a slime chunk, bait the slimes with an iron golem and let gravity or magma do the killing.

How it works

Materials

Build steps

  1. Find your chunk: use a slime chunk finder with your seed (Java), or a Bedrock slime chunk map (same coordinates in every world).
  2. Dig out the chunk and build spawning platforms with a 2.5-block gap (slabs help).
  3. Light the surroundings a little: slimes spawn in any light in slime chunks, but other hostile mobs should not fill the mob cap.
  4. Build a kill system: slimes can be washed into a cactus trap (it destroys about 20% of the slimeballs) or into drowning traps that split and finish them.
  5. Collect with hoppers into chests.
  6. AFK within 128 blocks of the spawning platforms, and spawn-proof the other areas in that range.

Rates

Output depends on the design, the version and how much of it you build, so we do not quote an hourly figure. Build the layout below, time it for a few minutes in your own world and scale from there.
