All Wood Types in Minecraft: Every Tree and Where to Find It
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- An axe (any tier) for faster chopping
- Saplings or fungi to farm each type at home
- Bone meal to speed up tree growth
Step by step
- Oak: the default tree of plains, forests, riversides and many other biomes; occasionally drops apples. Medium brown, the most versatile look.
- Spruce: taigas, snowy plains, windswept hills and old growth taigas (where it grows giant 2x2). Dark brown, great for cabins.
- Birch: birch forests and old growth birch forests (extra-tall trunks). White bark, pale yellow planks - the brightest Overworld wood.
- Jungle: jungles, with giant 2x2 variants and cocoa pods on the trunks. Warm light brown planks.
- Acacia: savannas, with its angled branching trunk. Vivid orange planks - love it or hate it.
- Dark oak: dark forests, grows only as a 2x2 tree. Deep brown planks, the classic mansion wood.
- Mangrove: mangrove swamps, grown from propagules that hang off the leaves. Reddish planks; mud roots included.
- Cherry: cherry groves on mountain slopes, pink leaves with falling petals. Soft pink planks.
- Pale oak: the pale garden, grey-white wood - plant 4 pale oak saplings in a 2x2 to grow one, and watch for creaking hearts.
- Poplar: the dappled forest biome, with red, orange or yellow autumn leaves and especially large canopies; check fallen trunks for free logs. Light brown planks.
- Crimson stem: crimson forests in the Nether, grown from crimson fungi on nylium. Purple-red planks, and fireproof like all Nether wood.
- Warped stem: warped forests, grown from warped fungi. Cyan-blue planks, also fireproof.
- Bamboo bonus: bamboo stalks craft into bamboo planks (and bamboo mosaic), a yellow-green wood set - farm it in jungles and bamboo jungles.
- Every type crafts the full block family: planks, stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, doors, trapdoors, signs, hanging signs, pressure plates, buttons and boats.
Java vs Bedrock
Farm every type once and you never travel for wood again: each tree regrows from its own sapling, and Nether fungi regrow with bone meal on nylium.
Versions: All 13 types are current as of 26.x on Java and Bedrock - poplar arrived with the dappled forest in the Drop 3 of 2026.
Frequently asked questions
How many wood types are in Minecraft?
13 as of 26.x: oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove, cherry, pale oak, poplar, crimson and warped stems, plus the bamboo plank set crafted from bamboo stalks.
Which wood is fireproof?
Crimson and warped - the two Nether woods. Their planks, stairs, slabs, doors and fences do not burn, which makes them ideal for builds near lava or fireplaces.
Where do I find poplar wood?
In the dappled forest biome - poplars generate only there, with red, orange or yellow leaves. Look for fallen trunks too: the biome has more fallen trees than any other, and they are free logs.
