Best Villager Trades in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Useful standard trades include librarian books, fletcher sticks-for-emeralds, farmer crops and golden carrots, and diamond equipment from smith professions. Curing can lower prices but does not guarantee 1-emerald gear. Default trades and the Villager Trade Rebalance experiment use different rules.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Mending librarian: place a lectern, check the book offer, break and replace until Mending appears - do not trade until you see the book you want.
  2. Fletcher sticks-for-emeralds: 32 sticks for 1 emerald turns any tree farm into infinite emeralds - the best emerald trade in the game.
  3. Farmer golden carrots: 3 emeralds for 3 golden carrots - the top food in the game for saturation, no cooking needed.
  4. Armorers, toolsmiths and weaponsmiths: diamond armor, tools and swords for emeralds at expert and master level - full diamond gear without mining diamonds.
  5. Cleric ender pearls and bottles o' enchanting: reliable pearls without hunting endermen, and XP storage.
  6. Cartographer explorer maps: ocean monument and woodland mansion maps - the intended way to find both.
  7. Cure a zombie villager with Weakness and a regular golden apple for a possible lasting discount. The amount depends on the offer; 1-emerald equipment is not guaranteed, and re-curing the same villager adds no discount.
  8. Restock rule: villagers resupply trades twice a day at their workstation - keep the job site block reachable.

Java vs Bedrock

Standard worlds allow random librarian books, including high levels from novice offers. In the Villager Trade Rebalance experiment, librarian books depend on biome and special master trades; Mending comes from master swamp librarians. Bedrock also needs a bed link for restocking.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a Mending trade?

Give an unemployed villager a lectern and check its first book trade. Not Mending? Break the lectern and replace it - the offer rerolls until you lock it in by trading.

What is the fastest way to get emeralds?

Fletchers buying sticks: chop a few trees, craft sticks, and convert stacks of wood into emeralds. Farmers buying pumpkins or melons from an automatic farm is the other classic.
