How to Build a Modern House in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
Quick answer: Modern style in 5 rules: white concrete walls, big glass windows, flat roofs at 2-3 different heights, one accent material (wood or gray concrete), and clean landscaping. Boxy is fine - the contrast sells it.
What you need
- White concrete (or quartz) - about 15-20 stacks
- Glass panes, lots of them
- One accent: spruce/dark oak planks or gray concrete
- Slabs and stairs for the flat roof edges
Step by step
- Think in boxes: two or three rectangles of different sizes pushed together. A 15x9 main box plus a 9x7 side box is a great start.
- Walls in white concrete - smooth, bright, unmistakably modern. Quartz works if you have a trading hall.
- Windows: full-height glass panes on entire wall sections, especially corners. Corner windows are the signature move.
- Flat roofs at different heights: the tall box's roof is the low box's terrace. Edge every roof with slabs for a thin, clean line.
- Accent wall: one box (or one face) in wood or gray concrete breaks the white and adds warmth.
- Interior: open plan, concrete or light wood floors, item frames as art, lanterns hidden in the ceiling - no torches on walls.
- Outside: a slab path, a small pool, trimmed hedges (leaves) and two or three trees in straight lines. Modern landscaping is geometry, not gardens.
Java vs Bedrock
Identical on Java and Bedrock.
Versions: Concrete since 1.12 made this style cheap - every current version has all the blocks used here.
Frequently asked questions
White concrete or quartz?
Concrete is far cheaper (sand + gravel + dye) and looks almost identical - use quartz only for accents like pillars and stairs.
My house looks like a shoebox - what is missing?
Height variation and depth. Add a second box at a different height, push one wall section forward, and add a slab overhang. Flat is fine; flat and single-height is not.
