How to Get Chorus Fruit in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Break chorus plants on the End's outer islands: every chorus plant block has a 50% chance to drop a chorus fruit. Eat one to teleport up to 8 blocks, or smelt it into popped chorus fruit for purpur and end rods.

What you need

Access to the outer End islands
Any tool or bare hands for the plants
Optional: end stone + chorus flowers for a home farm

Step by step

Beat the ender dragon and take an End gateway (throw an ender pearl into it) to reach the outer End islands, where chorus plants grow.
Break chorus plants: chop the bottom block to collapse the whole plant. Each plant block drops a chorus fruit 50% of the time, and Fortune does not improve the odds.
Farm them at home: plant a chorus flower (harvested from the plant tops) on end stone - it grows into a full chorus plant in any dimension.
Eat chorus fruit to teleport randomly up to 8 blocks away. It works with a full hunger bar, has a 1-second cooldown, cancels all fall damage, and can pass through solid walls.
Smelt chorus fruit in a furnace to get popped chorus fruit, the ingredient for purpur blocks and end rods.

Java vs Bedrock

Chorus fruit works the same in Java and Bedrock: 50% drop per plant block, teleport range of 8 blocks, 1-second cooldown. In both editions it is completely non-functional above the Nether roof.

Versions: Chorus fruit was added in the Combat Update (1.9, 2016) with the rest of the outer End. Since 1.20.2, eating one also resets your fall distance, which is why it can save you from any fall.

Frequently asked questions

What does chorus fruit do when you eat it?

It restores 4 hunger points and teleports you to a random spot within 8 blocks on the ground - through walls if needed. It cannot land you in water or lava, and eating one erases all accumulated fall damage.

Can I farm chorus fruit?

Yes. Break a chorus flower from the top of a wild plant and place it on end stone. It grows into a new multi-block plant in the Overworld, the Nether or the End, giving you an infinite supply.

Why is my chorus fruit not teleporting me?

If no safe landing spot exists within 8 blocks, the teleport fails and you stay put. It also does nothing at all above the Nether roof.
