How to Get Fire Aspect in Minecraft (Fire Aspect II)

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Fire Aspect ignites melee targets: 4 seconds of burning per level on swords and spears (maces need an anvil). Get it from enchanting tables, librarian trades, fishing or structure loot. Fire Aspect II cooks meat drops automatically - but skip it against Nether mobs, the Ender Dragon, the Wither and the Warden.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Enchant a sword: Fire Aspect appears on enchanting tables for swords - max level II, so even mid-level rolls can land it. Spears accept it the same way; maces only receive it through an anvil.
  2. Trade with librarians: reroll lecterns for a Fire Aspect book - cheap and quick since it's only two levels. II is one anvil combine away from I.
  3. Fish and loot: fishing books and non-village structure chests carry it; Bedrock raid mobs drop books as well.
  4. Know the damage: each level adds 80 fire-ticks (4 seconds of burn). Because the first second isn't counted, total burn damage is 3 at level I and 7 at level II (level × 4 − 1).
  5. Free barbecue: any mob that drops raw meat drops it COOKED if it dies while burning - even if the killing blow lands underwater. Fire Aspect II on a hunting sword means never smelting steak again.
  6. Bedrock bonus: use a Fire Aspect weapon on unlit candles and campfires to light them, or on TNT and TNT minecarts to prime them from a safe distance. In current Bedrock, enchanted books alone no longer ignite these; use the enchanted weapon itself.
  7. Know the immune: Nether-native mobs (except piglins, piglin brutes and hoglins) ignore fire, and the Ender Dragon, Wither and Warden are immune. Fire Aspect is an overworld enchant.
  8. Java quirks: off-hand spear charge attacks don't apply Fire Aspect (unresolved bug), and since 1.21 the sword's sweep attack spreads the burn to grouped mobs.
  9. Sulfur cubes that have absorbed TNT ignite and explode when hit with a Fire Aspect item in current versions - careful where you swing.

Java vs Bedrock

Burn mechanics match across editions (4 seconds per level, level × 4 − 1 damage). Bedrock extras: Fire Aspect items light candles, campfires, TNT and TNT minecarts with the use button. Java extras: sweep attacks spread the burn since 1.21; off-hand spear charges don't apply it (bug).

Frequently asked questions

Is Fire Aspect worth it?

For hunting, yes - mobs that die while burning drop cooked meat, so it pays for itself in food. For serious combat it's debatable: the burn adds damage over time but sets enemies on fire near you, and many players prefer pure Sharpness for bosses (several of which are fire-immune anyway).

Does Fire Aspect work on the Ender Dragon?

No - the Ender Dragon, Wither and Warden are all immune to fire, and so are Nether-native mobs like blazes, ghasts, magma cubes and striders. Piglins, piglin brutes and hoglins are the Nether exceptions that DO burn.

Can Fire Aspect light TNT?

In Bedrock, yes - use the enchanted item on TNT or a TNT minecart to ignite it, and on unlit candles or campfires to light them. Java removed the candle-lighting feature during the 1.21 pre-releases.
