How to Get Lure in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Fishing rod (3 sticks + 2 string)
- Enchanting table, or anvil + Lure enchanted book
- XP levels
- Water for fishing; Java treasure requires the open-water volume described below, not direct sky
Step by step
- Craft a fishing rod. Three sticks plus two string from spiders.
- Enchant it with Lure. The enchanting table can roll it directly on the rod, or use an anvil with a Lure book from a librarian, a loot chest or a treasure catch.
- Each Lure level subtracts 5 seconds from the initial 5-30 second waiting-time roll. Negative rolls are retried, so Lure III does not make every bite instant. The approaching-particle phase and your reel-in time also matter.
- Pair it with Luck of the Sea. They are compatible and cover both halves of fishing: Lure makes bites come faster, Luck of the Sea makes each catch better. Lure III + Luck of the Sea III + Mending is the classic endgame rod.
- Java treasure requires a qualifying 5×4×5 volume around the bobber: layers of water sources or non-colliding waterlogged blocks below, and air/lily pads above. No flowing water or obstructing solids in that volume. A three-block-deep pool helps keep the check valid as the bobber dips. Direct sky affects speed, not a separate treasure requirement. Bedrock has no open-water treasure check.
Java vs Bedrock
Lure shortens waits and does not improve treasure odds. Java has an open-water treasure check; Bedrock does not. Lure and Luck of the Sea can be used together. The normal maximum is III.

Frequently asked questions
Lure or Luck of the Sea?
Both - they stack on the same rod and answer different questions. Lure is quantity (faster bites), Luck of the Sea is quality (more treasure, less junk). If you must pick one for XP and book farming, Luck of the Sea edges it out.
Does Lure work in rain?
Rain already shortens bite times on its own, and Lure stacks with that bonus - fishing in the rain with Lure III is the fastest catching in the game.
Why does nothing bite with my command-enchanted rod?
Command-only Lure levels above V can prevent bites in Java. Survival Lure III is the normal maximum.
