How to Get Poisonous Potatoes in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Harvest fully grown potato crops: each has a 2% chance to drop a poisonous potato on top of the 2-5 potatoes (Fortune does not change it). You can also find 2-6 in shipwreck supply chests (42.1%). Eating one restores 2 hunger and 1.2 saturation with a 60% chance of Poison for 5 seconds.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Plant potatoes on farmland and wait until the crop is fully grown.
  2. Break the fully grown crop: 2-5 potatoes drop, plus a 2% chance of one poisonous potato. Fortune has no effect on that chance.
  3. Automate it if you want many: a farmer villager can break the crop and leave the poisonous potato on the ground for a collection system.
  4. Alternatively, loot supply chests in shipwrecks: 2-6 poisonous potatoes with a 42.1% chance.
  5. Do not plant or bake them: poisonous potatoes cannot be planted, baked or composted.
