How to Get a Spore Blossom in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- No tools required - it breaks instantly with bare hands
- A way to find lush caves: azalea trees on the surface mark them
- Optional: torches and food for caving
Step by step
- Find a lush cave: look for azalea trees on the surface - a rooted azalea means lush caves directly below. Dig straight down from the tree.
- Explore the cave and look up: spore blossoms hang from the ceiling, dripping green particles you can see from far away.
- Break them with anything, even your fist - they pop off instantly and drop themselves.
- Replant them at home on the UNDERSIDE of any solid block (not leaves).
- Enjoy the ambience: the blossom rains green spore particles up to 70 blocks down and spreads floating particles in a 21x12x21 volume beneath it.
- Compost the extras: 65% chance to fill a composter layer.
Java vs Bedrock
Identical in Java and Bedrock. The key fact for both: spore blossoms are NOT renewable - bone meal does not spread them and they never regrow, so the world's supply is fixed. They are the only lush-cave block that cannot be farmed.
Versions: Revealed at Minecraft Live 2020 and added in 1.17 (21w05a), but unobtainable until 1.18 made lush caves generate naturally in survival worlds.
Frequently asked questions
Can you grow spore blossoms with bone meal?
No. Bone meal does nothing to them and they never spread or regrow - spore blossoms are the one lush cave block that is not renewable. What you pick is all there is.
Where do spore blossoms spawn?
Only on the ceilings of lush caves, which generate underground beneath azalea trees. No other biome has them.
Do spore blossoms need light?
No. They hang in dark caves naturally and work on the underside of any solid block at any light level - only leaves refuse them.
