How to Make an End Rod in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- 1 blaze rod
- 1 popped chorus fruit
- A furnace with fuel
Step by step
- Get blaze rods from blazes in a Nether fortress.
- Get chorus fruit by breaking chorus plants on the End's outer islands.
- Smelt the chorus fruit in a furnace to get popped chorus fruit.
- Craft: place the blaze rod with the popped chorus fruit below it in the grid. The recipe yields 4 end rods.
- Alternative: end rods generate all over End city towers, inside and out, and break instantly with any tool - raid a city and take them home.
Java vs Bedrock
Same recipe and light level 14 in Java and Bedrock. In Bedrock end rods are waterloggable; in Java they are not.
Versions: End rods were added in the Combat Update (1.9, 2016) generating in End cities; the crafting recipe arrived later in the same update cycle. Their light level of 14 matches torches.
Frequently asked questions
What are end rods used for?
Decoration and lighting. They emit light level 14, work on any face of a block including ceilings and walls, and their white particle glow fits modern and End-themed builds.
Do end rods break when the supporting block is removed?
No. End rods float in place when their supporting block is broken, and falling sand or gravel landing on a vertical rod does not break either.
Are end rods renewable?
Yes. Blaze rods come from farmable blazes and chorus fruit grows from chorus flowers on end stone, so end rods are infinitely craftable.
