Lead
Utility Stack: 64 Since Alpha v1.0.17 (2010); receta actual: 1.21.6
Quick answer: Craft it: 5 string in a W pattern makes 2 leads - no slimeball needed since 1.21.6 (Chase the Skies).
How to get it
- Craft it: 5 string in a W pattern makes 2 leads - no slimeball needed since 1.21.6 (Chase the Skies)
- Free leads from wandering traders: detach their trader llamas (shears, boats, or distance) and the leads drop
- Also found in buried treasure, woodland mansion and trail ruins chests
Uses
- Leash a mob by using the lead on it, then walk - it follows. Each mob needs its own lead, but you can drag a whole train
- Tie a leashed mob to a fence (use the fence while sneaking) so it stays put - the classic pasture post
- Leash two mobs together directly since 1.21.6, and snip any leash cleanly with shears
- Leashable crowd: horses, cows, sheep, pigs, llamas, camels, goats, frogs, axolotls, bees, sniffers, striders, happy ghasts, boats and more - even hoglins and zoglins if you are brave
- Careful: leads snap past 12 blocks (16 for happy ghasts), and boosting with a firework on elytra breaks every attached lead
Renewability
Renewable: string is farmable from spiders and cobwebs.
Java vs Bedrock
Same recipe and behavior in Java and Bedrock since 1.21.6. Before that update the recipe was 4 string + 1 slimeball, so old guides showing slimeballs are outdated.
