Sniffer Egg
Block Stack: 64 Since 1.20 (Trails & Tales)
Quick answer: Brush suspicious sand at warm ocean ruins - sniffer eggs are one of its exclusive loot drops.
How to get it
- Brush suspicious sand at warm ocean ruins - sniffer eggs are one of its exclusive loot drops
- Or breed two sniffers with torchflower seeds: the egg drops as an item (unlike turtle eggs, which get placed)
- Once placed, it mines with any tool or bare hands and always drops itself - no Silk Touch needed
Uses
- Place it and wait: the egg cracks twice and hatches into a snifflet (baby sniffer)
- Hatching takes 10 minutes on moss blocks, 20 minutes on any other block (pale moss counts as other)
- Eggs float: they need no supporting block and ignore gravity, so floating hatcheries are legal
- In Java, hatching ignores the randomTickSpeed gamerule - you cannot speed it up with commands
- Grow up your snifflet with torchflower seeds, then breed the adults for an egg-positive sniffer farm
Renewability
Renewable: once you have two sniffers, breeding produces more eggs indefinitely.
Java vs Bedrock
Same hatching and breeding in Java and Bedrock. Cosmetic difference: the egg block is transparent in Bedrock, opaque in Java. The no-Silk-Touch and no-support-block behaviors are intended in both.
