Wolf Armor
Combat Stack: 1 Since 1.20.5 (Armadillo & Wolf Armor)
Quick answer: Craft it from 6 armadillo scutes (helmet pattern: fill the top row and both side columns).
How to get it
- Craft it from 6 armadillo scutes (helmet pattern: fill the top row and both side columns)
- Brush armadillos or wait for their natural scute drops to gather the 6 scutes
- Killed wolves always drop their equipped wolf armor, whatever kills them
Uses
- Equip it on an adult tamed wolf: the armor absorbs ALL damage to the wolf except drowning, freezing, suffocation, magic (like poison or instant damage) and thorns
- 64 durability: it cracks visibly as it wears down, then breaks
- Repair it by using armadillo scutes on the wolf (8 durability) or in an anvil (16 per scute)
- Dye it any of the 16 colors by combining it with a dye - armor looks different per wolf pack
- Cannot be equipped on baby wolves or untamed wolves
Renewability
Yes: scutes are infinitely renewable from armadillos.
Java vs Bedrock
Same in both editions. Bedrock bug: zombies, husks, zombie villagers and drowned can pick up and wear wolf armor, and it protects them. Ignore the +11 Armor tooltip in Java - it is a display bug; the armor actually blocks 100% of covered damage.
