How to find Bat

Any dark corner of the Overworld: caves and unlit areas at light level 3 or less in Java (4 or less in Bedrock), on stone-type blocks away from the sky, at any height and in any biome except the deep dark.

Spawn conditions: Light level of 3 or less (Java) or 4 or less (Bedrock), on stone, granite, diorite, andesite, tuff or deepslate not exposed to the sky, in groups of up to 8, in any Overworld biome except the deep dark.

Drops

It drops no items or experience.

How to kill Bat

It only has 6 health, so anything kills it in one hit - but there is no reward: bats drop no items and no experience. It is pure atmosphere, best left alone.

Behavior

Flies aimlessly while squeaking, then hangs upside down from the underside of solid blocks to rest. Approach a hanging bat - even while invisible - and it flies away. It despawns once you move more than 32 blocks away, and in Java its collision box ignores players and redstone components.

Taming and breeding

Cannot be tamed, bred, leashed or moved in a boat or minecart - the bat is the game's only purely ambient mob.
