How to find Silverfish
Inside infested stone and deepslate blocks in mountain and windswept hills caves, strongholds, igloo basements, woodland mansion false portal rooms, and from trial spawners in trial chambers.
Spawn conditions: Break an infested block (it mines instantly and sounds like stone) and the silverfish pops out; End portal rooms in strongholds hold a silverfish monster spawner (light level 11 or less).

How to kill Silverfish
One hit with any decent weapon. The danger is numbers: attacking one calls silverfish out of every infested block within 15 blocks. Silk touch mines infested blocks without waking them.
Behavior
Bites for 1-2 damage, but attacks in swarms. Silverfish burrow into stone, cobblestone, stone bricks and deepslate, turning them into infested blocks - which is how one silverfish becomes twenty. The Infested potion effect spawns silverfish 10% of the times the affected entity takes damage.
Taming and breeding
Cannot be tamed or bred. The stronghold spawner near the End portal can be converted into an XP farm.
