Best Armor Enchantments in Minecraft (Full Set)
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- An enchanting table with 15 bookshelves, or an anvil plus enchanted books
- Lapis and lots of XP
- Diamond or netherite armor, all four pieces
Step by step
- Every piece: Protection IV, Unbreaking III and Mending form a general-purpose setup. Unbreaking III extends armor durability by about 1.43 times on average, not the four-times multiplier for tools.
- Helmet: add Respiration III for about a minute of underwater air and Aqua Affinity to remove the submerged mining penalty. Aqua Affinity does not remove the separate floating penalty.
- Boots: Feather Falling IV cuts fall damage by nearly half, and Depth Strider III for water speed. Frost Walker II conflicts with Depth Strider; choose it when walking across surface water matters more.
- Leggings: Swift Sneak III (ancient city chests only) for faster crouching - niche, but worth applying if you find it.
- Thorns III on all four pieces if you can: attackers take damage automatically. It eats durability - only worth it with Mending.
- Specialized sets: Projectile Protection for skeletons and shulker bullets, Blast Protection for end crystals and beds in the Nether, Fire Protection for lava work. Keep them as swap pieces.
- Enchantment order on the anvil affects cost - compare the preview costs of different combination orders before spending XP.
- Anvil order matters: combine books with each other first (two I make II, two II make III), then apply the cheapest books to the item first. Every anvil job on an item raises its prior-work penalty, and once a single job would cost more than 39 levels the anvil refuses with 'Too Expensive!' - so build books before touching the item.

Java vs Bedrock
The core armor setup works in Java and Bedrock. In Java, Thorns does not reflect the sonic boom attack of a warden; in Bedrock it does. Other combat details can differ by edition.

Frequently asked questions
Protection IV or specialized protection?
Protection IV is a good general-purpose choice. Four pieces provide 64% enchantment damage reduction for covered damage, applied after armor. Specialized protection can give more reduction against its matching damage type, up to the 80% enchantment cap. Protection does not stop a warden's sonic boom, starvation or void damage.
Is Thorns worth it?
Thorns is optional: it can damage attackers, but it consumes extra armor durability. Mending helps offset that cost. In Java, it does not reflect a warden's sonic boom; do not rely on it as protection against the Warden.
