Feather Falling IV: cuts fall damage by nearly half - boots-only and the most important exclusive.
Protection IV: the best all-round defense; the protection types are mutually exclusive per piece.
Depth Strider III: swim at walking speed - the pick if you work in oceans.
Frost Walker II is an alternative to Depth Strider for crossing suitable source water with air above it. It does not work on lava. Choose by task or keep separate pairs.
Soul Speed III: run fast on soul sand and soul soil - boots-only, found by bartering with piglins or in bastion loot.
Mending + Unbreaking III reduce repair work, but boots can still break. Soul Speed can drain durability on soul blocks; collect XP while wearing the damaged boots and check their condition.
Thorns III is optional: it damages attackers but can cost extra durability. Compare the anvil costs and book-combination order instead of assuming it must always be added last.

Java vs Bedrock

Depth Strider and Frost Walker are incompatible through normal enchanting in both editions. Soul Speed can coexist with either. Frost Walker freezes a circular area in Java and a square area in Bedrock.
